Following the cancellation of this year’s Dorset Art Weeks – the UK’s largest free arts festival – over 80 artists present their works in this online auction
The auction will open for bidding on Tuesday 7 July and remains open until Sunday 19 July
Featuring over 200 items, covering: paintings, prints, photographs, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, textiles, jewellery, mixed media, furniture & stoneware

Caroline Liddington, Coastal Waves, oil on canvas, est. £750 (+fees)
Jessamy Keily, Saltwater Ammonite, ultramarine ink and seawater, est. £300 (+fees)
In light of the postponement of what would have been the 14th Dorset Art Weeks, an online auction with works by over 80 of the participating artists will now take place online at The Auction Hub. The much anticipated biennial event, to have been held across the county from 23 May to 7 June, would have seen hundreds of artists opening up their studios to UK and overseas visitors. The festival contributes £2m to the Dorset economy.

The Auction Hub was a sponsor of Dorset Art Weeks 2020 and The Auction Hub founder James Harvey hit upon the idea of an online auction to take the place of the festival and provide a sales platform for artists’ specially created works. Commenting on the auction initiative, James said, ‘Dorset Art Weeks is a key, high profile event in the Summer calendar, with artists preparing up to two years in advance. We are delighted to present this online auction, showcasing the incredible talent from the county, to local, national and international audiences. The sheer range of items on offer will attract and delight many bidders and buyers during these exceptional times’.
Antje Rook, Dance of the mackerel, textile, est. £350 (+fees)
Bidding starts from £50 (+fees) for Ann Sim’s cheeseboard in ash, with whimsical images applied by hand, up to £16,000 (+fees) for Aqueous III, by Andy Hopper, sculptor and Master Blacksmith; his sculpture is forged in stainless steel and measures over a metre in height.
Sophie Molins, Edition from Happy Ending Happy Ever After, est. £250 (+fees)
Many works in the auction take their inspiration from the countryside and coastlines to be found across the vast expanses of Dorset. Whereas other artists bring their experience of working and living outside the county and the UK to their works created in Dorset.
Dylan Leddington, Emerald Dream, est. £50 (+fees)
The auction will also feature pieces by Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) students – another Dorset Art Weeks’ sponsor. Dylan Leddington and Ady Raj are both studying for a BA degree in Fine Art and were drawn to Dorset – for Dylan, born in Poole, the landscapes proved irresistible, while for Ady, his meditative approach to his art is fuelled by close proximity to Dorset’s stunning beaches.
Kate Madden, says, ‘As the inaugural Dorset Art Weeks Event Producer, I find it overwhelming that inspite of being so affected by the cancellation of teaching, courses and exhibitions – and with just a few days’ notice – our artists have responded so enthusiastically to be part of this auction devised by The Auction Hub. It demonstrates a strong and deep connection to this biennial event’.
Gerry Dudgeon, A Way Through The Trees, acrylic on canvas, est. £1,200 (+fees)
The online auction will take place on The Auction Hub: www.theauctionhub.uk/daw with each work presented with multiple images and detailed cataloguing. Bidding will take place on the site from 7 July and bids can be placed up until 19 July. Bidders will see the latest and highest bid against each work before placing their own bid.
