Auction and Arts Marketing and Promotion

Lucinda Blythe has over 30 years’ experience in the auction world and she now works in a freelance capacity for arts organisations, auction houses and artists.

From 1994-2011 Lucinda worked at Sotheby’s where from 1999-2006 she headed the Catalogue Publishing Division with responsibility for photography, design, production and distribution of catalogues for the company’s UK and European auction locations. Her other roles at Sotheby’s included Head of Marketing, Head of Proposals and Senior Business Director for the European Jewellery and Watch Division – where she worked with the specialist teams to secure and manage important consignments and collections as well as winning market share for the European Jewellery Division.

In early 2013 Lucinda launched The Auction Room with George Bailey, formerly Managing Director, Sotheby’s Europe, an online auction house. The site hosted online auctions of Middle Eastern Contemporary Art, African Contemporary Art, Jewellery and Watches, Tribal Art and single owner collections. The Auction Room also presented charity auctions, notably Art on a Postcard for the Hepatitis C Trust.

From 2015-2017 Lucinda was Marketing Director for the Fine Art Auction Group, (comprising: Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions, Mallett Antiques and Hatfields Restoration). In this role she oversaw and managed the planning and execution of the full range of marketing, advertising and promotional strategies across the Group’s businesses. In 2018 Lucinda became Marketing Projects Manager for Dreweatts 1759, with responsibility for the company’s website and content, press and communications. She managed the development and design of the new Dreweatts’ website and created new copy and site content – the site was launched in July 2019.

Currently Lucinda works for The Pedestal – a specialist auction house founded by senior Furniture and Works of Art specialists, Guy Savill and Sally Stratton MRICS. She handles press coverage, social media, advertising, blogs and content for the website (view the website here). Lucinda also works as Business Manager for Understanding Jewellery – a new business founded by senior Jewellery specialists, David Bennett and Daniela Mascetti, which launched in July 2021. Lucinda supports the co-founders in managing and developing all elements of the company’s activities, as well as researching and writing articles and running Understanding Jewellery’s social media, (view the website here). Lucinda also provides promotional, marketing and website services for the renowned ceramicist Margaret O’Rorke, (view the website here).

Lucinda is a Trustee for the charity, Friends of Canonbury Square, the main focus of which is the maintenance of one of London’s finest garden squares. She has also volunteered for the British Lung Foundation (Development Researcher) and London Parks & Gardens Trust (Co-ordinator: Open Garden Squares Weekend, read her event blog here).
